The challenge clock
Every challenge has deadlines to answer and to play. Here is what happens when time runs out.
Last updated
Every open challenge has a clock. It shows who needs to act and by when, so matches do not stall.
Two deadlines
- Answer by: the player who was challenged has a set number of days to answer, for example "Dante has 2 days to answer".
- Play by: once accepted, the match must be played by a date, for example "Play by Sat, Oct 10".
Under the clock you see the rule that applies when the deadline passes.
Your next deadlines also appear on each ladder in My ladders, such as "Answer Dante by Thu" or "Play Ot by Sat".
Default rules
Your organizer picks the rules. New ladders start with one of two presets, and the organizer can change any rule:
- Relaxed: answer within 3 days. If there is no answer, the challenge is released and the challenger can pick someone else. Play within 10 days.
- Competitive: answer within 2 days. If there is no answer, the challenger takes the win. Play within 7 days.
On both presets, if an accepted match is not played in time, the challenge is released and nobody moves.
To see your ladder's exact rules, open the ladder and tap How this ladder works.
Reminders
We send a reminder 24 hours before your answer deadline, and another when a match needs to be played. You get a notification when a challenge expires and its rule is applied.
When the clock pauses
If you set your status to injured, vacation, or break, the challenge clock pauses. See Set your availability.
Rule changes
When an organizer changes the rules, open challenges keep the rules they started with. New challenges use the new rules.
